We are very sorry for the death of Mr. Joan Cañigueral Isern (Cassà de la Selva, Girona, 1933), president of holding Grup Cañigueral, who died at his family home yesterday, 3th july of 2019.
Born in a humble family, he was an affable man and cheerful in the personal area and a tireless worker in the workplace, enterprising, dynamic and with a strong entrepreneurial spirit. He created his first butcher shop in the 1940s and soon become supplier of other butcher shops in the province of Girona.
In 1969, together with his brothers Joaquim and Càndid, he founded the family business that gave rise to the current Grup Cañigueral, with which the cutting room of Cassà de la Selva was opened and holdings was acquired in the slaughterhouse Frigorifics Costa Brava .
In successive years the whole of this second company was purchased and new companies were founded and acquired to complete the manufacture and commercialization of the whole range of meat products, mainly focused on porcine market. This is the case of Embutidos Monter (1989), Coopecarn (2007), Far Jamones y Embutidos (2016) and Frescos Delisano (2016). That same year Joan Cañigueral acquired Fricafor (2016).
The board of directors and the employees of all the companies of the Grup Cañigueral deeply feel the pain of their loss and we thank him for their life of absolute dedication to the Grup.
